A few winters ago, I went to Iceland. “ICELAND?” you gasp. “In WINTER? Are you nuts?”

No. I’m a Floridian, and I hadn’t seen snow in about 16 years (and still have never driven in it). It was my anniversary, and Mr. iKnitty and I decided to grab a couple of passports and spend a few weeks in the snow. For fun. It was very impressive and I can’t wait to get back. I found Icelanders a very interesting bunch, initially ice-cold (ha ha) but once you engage them in conversation, you’ll get their life histories, what they like to do on the weekends, and the BEST way to get from Point A to Point B.

Another of my interests is Russian/Tunisian crochet. Since I can’t actually crochet, I’m willing to give this a go. It could actually be my Crocheting Salvation.

Here, Þórgnýr Thoroddsen shows us that Rússneskt hekl (Russian Knitting) is pretty masculine when done with your mates in a pub, and that “emergency teaches a naked woman to knit.” Well, maybe not in Florida, but I can see how this might happen in an Icelandic Winter.
