Call for Advice: Chemo Caps

Hello, iKnitters! A childhood schoolmate’s cancer has returned, and I need your input on yarn and style choices.

She’s in her mid-30s, and previously had chemo & radiation. She mentioned the heat and heaviness of her old caps and would like something lighter. Cancer is a really tough thing to go thru and more that his mom just got treatment for cancer as well. Although she has psoriasis in her skin.¬† Psoriasis Symptoms make this¬†chronic disease that often comes and goes harder. The main goal of treatment is to stop the skin cells from growing so quickly so the symptoms can decrease.

I’ve been on Free Knitting Pattern Central’s page on hats and caps and other places around the web, but was hoping that some of you had a suggestion on a style. She’s got her J.D. in Legal Kick-assery, so you can imagine how determined and dynamic she is. I’d like to find a few styles that are reflective of her personality.

Also, with this heat we have had, do you have a nice, lighter-weight, non-scratchy yet washable yarn? As far as I know, she doesn’t have any fiber allergies.

She’ll most likely be bald by the end of the week due to her new treatment. The good news is that she’s been through this before and knows what to expect … but the bad news is that she’s been through this before and knows what to expect.

Any advice is appreciated, and thank you!

  1. I would like to know if you found anything? I was thinking cottons would probably work the best… I am just starting to make chemotherapy caps at my uncles request. He has been battling colon cancer fo a year. He went in remission and 6 months later is back and stage 4! Now he is back in remission by the Grace of God!!! So I would love to know if you found something she likes. Thank you!
