I’m married, and only really took up knitting about seven or so years into my marriage. We met and married in Florida, and I have offered many times to make him a hat, a scarf, a pair of mitts, or a sweater.
Nuh uh. Nope. He’s turned me down each and every time. The good news is that with my relationship, I will never, ever have to worry about the Boyfriend (or, in my case, Husband) Sweater Curse.
If you’re not familiar with it, the Boyfriend Sweater Curse is when a woman or man makes a sweater for his/her man. The intended breaks up with the knitter shortly after receiving the gift of the knitted sweater. And, there you have it.
Other variations of the Boyfriend Sweater Curse are when the knitter gives a sweater that they lovingly, painstakingly created and the intended’s reaction was lukewarm (at best). At this point, the knitter realizes that said lukewarm reaction is the final straw and ends the relationship. For some, even the reaction to the mere suggestion of the creation of that boyfriend sweater is a deal-breaker.
